Azofra to Redecilla del Camino 25k/15.5m Total 216k/134.2m October 2 2018 Day 11

Up and out before sunrise walking through the city of Azofra which provided a little light until we got to the outside of town. Once you ran out of Lights we had to use headlamps to follow the trail. But we didn’t get to witness a beautiful sunrise. In the city of Cirueña we ran across a 9-hole golf course which was in beautiful shape. I never years ago the government what’s Spain built up this area in hopes of bringing people to the area. The city had a full size pool tennis court and so on but it was like a Zombie Town. We went to the Old Village I tried to get something to eat there but woman who is running the bar and restaurant is quite nasty so we moved on.
In the city of Santo Domingo de la Calzada it came across a beautiful Church the
Cathedral of Santo Domingo dates from the 12th century and has Romanesque, Plateresque and Gothic influences. It is laid out like a traditional pilgrimage church with room for large numbers of people to circulate. The tomb of Santo Domingo is near the main entrance, with a crypt underneath. A cock and hen are permanently stationed overlooking the saint’s earthly repose. It was a tradition for pilgrims to take a feather from one of them, however this is no longer possible because their cage is out of reach. They’re replaced every fifteen days. The cloister dates from the 14th century, it has been recently renovated and now houses a permanent exhibition of artefacts associated with the cathedral
